Break Free With The Top Three Secret Methods for Anxiety Relief

The best natural remedies for anxiety relief is what every person deserves.   "Can't Take Anxiety Anymore? Anxiety is only good for you when it drives you into a positive action, like when it helps solve a pressing problem.

However, if worst-case scenarios and “what if” thinking preoccupies your mind persistently, then it is right to guess that you are dealing with a much more difficult situation. If you cannot take it anymore, you need to learn some strategies to relieve the symptoms before they become worse. Your level of anxiety might turn into a psychological concern that would warrant urgent management.

 

Anxiety without relief can be agonizing and paralyzing. It saps you emotionally, physically and mentally. Your doubts and fears will eat you up and interfere with your work, your life and your relationships. However, you need not worry for too long.  Anxiety is a habit you can unlearn. To help you manage this disorder, try these three quick and effective methods for when you need anxiety relief immediately.

 

All Natural Anxiety Relief Methods

 

 

1. Deep Breathing

When anxiety strikes, it causes trouble with your breathing. It makes breathing faster, blowing of too much carbon dioxide in the process. With too little carbon dioxide left, hyperventilation happens. This causes symptoms of dizziness, lightheadedness, and breathlessness. These frightening symptoms further escalate the brewing panic. To ease these fear-provoking symptoms and calm yourself down, breathing a lungful of air from your diaphragm is the solution.

 

2. Mindfulness Meditation

Many counselors and therapists to help anxious patients reduce their fears and calm their raging panic have advocated meditation. A particular type of meditation exercise named mindfulness meditation has grown particularly popular over the years in deal with anxiety relief. This involves the art of focusing the mind on the present, from your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and surroundings and with an attitude of acceptance and peace. This relaxation technique is best practiced together with deep breathing exercises.

 

3. Progressive Muscle Relaxation

With all muscles rigidly tensed in time of anxiety, progressive muscle relaxation can help release them from this tension. This is done by consciously tensing certain muscle groups and then releasing this tension and minding the muscles’ relaxation.

 

Repetitive practice of  anxiety relief in this exercise can help you distinguish between sensations of tense muscle and a relaxed one. With this recognition, you can help stimulate feelings of muscular relaxation when you feel the first signs of tension creeping up. In addition to this physical easiness, mental calmness will also be induced.

Why Worrying is a Waste of Time

Time is precious.  Worrying is a waste of time.  Worrying uses precious time and energy and is closely related to stress and anxiety.  Here are some facts to document why worrying is a waste of time and how worrying creates a state of stress and lowered performance:

·       Worrying makes you more likely to make an emotional rather than a rational decision.

·       Chronic worry is correlated with poor emotional regulation (a harder time controlling emotions).

·       Worries are often irrational.  First degree worry is characterized by worrying about a future event.  Second degree worry is characterized by worrying about worrying. 

·       Worriers  tend to have  high risk for cardiovascular disease. 

·       Worriers demonstrate a stronger negativity bias (tendency to focus on what isn’t working) than those who are not prone to chronic worrying

 ·       Worriers often experience feelings of loneliness as isolation as they are not too much fun to be around.Most of u...

 Several recent studies indicate that over 85% of all that we worry about never happens. These include worries over our past which can never be changed, worries over which we have no control, irrational concerns or fears, and future worries. Worrying never affects the final outcome.  It is impossible to worry a problem away!

How do You Know if You Feel Fear or is it Your Intuition?

I am very intuitive as are many of you reading this article.  When I experience the "chills-tingles" and a feeling that rings true I know it's my intuition- or that something is true...no matter what.

Today a coaching client revealed to me in the first  three minutes that she is "very intuitive" was wondering if her feelings and actions were perhaps fear based; was it fear or intuition that was leading her to feel "compelled" to take some actions that she was not happy about, that she was seeing me today to gain greater insight into and understand if it was fear or intuition that was leading her.

 This evening, no coincidence that nothing was "on demand" TV  that I was interested in, so I picked up a professional journal that was on my coffee table all week - "Choice the magazine of professional coaching" ; this issue focusing on "Intuition & Coaching".  One of the many interesting articles written by colleagues pertains to the fear or intuition question.
 

 Now, back to my client.  After discussing her issues and challenges, we decided to "tap" (EFT- Emotional Freedom Techniques) on the issue of feeling compelled to do something that she admittedly felt shame  about - that was clearly giving her anxiety attacks. 


When we began, her feeling of distress about this was 10 on a scale of 1-10.  After several rounds of tapping she was down to 5, and saying she was feeling more at ease, relaxed.

In the process, a few core issues revealed themselves - revelations to her and more material for us to work on in 2012.  In the process, I also gave her three medical referrals to holistic doctors.  I used my intuition in facilitating EFT and it guided all my statements and questions, which gave me a greater insight into what my client truly needed.  


This of course gave my client a deeper level of understanding and clarity as well, because I  tuned into her through my intuition and not the analytical side of my brain. 

 

Intuition is always the winner - follow your gut - no matter what - trust yourself,  honor your true feelings (emotional and physical) and act on them.

How to Retake Control of Your Personal Power

We can begin to retake control of our personal power by becoming courageous enough to articulate the essence of our emotions.  Perhaps you have journaled and meditated; this is the next step.
 
Whatever the nature of your feelings, carefully define the reaction taking place within you. If you are afraid of a situation or intimidated by an individual, try to include everything relevant to your situation while giving voice to your anxiety or issue.  There may be times when you will find the release you desire only by admitting your feelings to others. When this is the case, your ability to name your feelings explicitly can help you ask for the support, aid, or guidance you need without becoming bogged down and stuck in your feelings. 

 The act of making a clear connection between your circumstances and your feelings unravels the mystery that previously kept you from being in complete control of your emotional state. Giving voice to  these feelings brings you closer to letting them go.  In the process, you naturally relax and rediscover your emotional equilibrium.

Hurricane/Disaster Emotional Relief with EFT

While you must follow common sense and evacuate when it’s necessary and  make sure you have enough emergency supplies on hand, there is no need to spend hours or even minutes in terror while riding out the storm.

Neurobiologist Jill Bolte Taylor explains that the brain and body are
designed to react to trauma by setting off an emotional response and that
the neurophysiology of the body is set up to allow us to feel that emotion
AND RELEASE IT within 90 seconds.

It’s when we hold on to the emotion, and replay the pattern, that the
emotional response gets caught in our body and we hold on to the anxiety,
the stress, and even the terror.

So..the  best time to tap away the emotion is when you are feeling it -before it gets a chance to get stuck in your body.

If you think about it, releasing the anxiety and stress leaves you more clear-headed to logically deal with traumatic events such as hurricanes.

TIP #1: TAP IN THE MOMENT
If you find yourself experiencing this hurricane, or any other scary event,
tap while it is happening. As soon as you feel any anxiety, stress or
terror, start tapping on the EFT tapping points.

If you are not familiar with EFT you can view charts of the tapping pointshere as well as my intro EFT video.

Don’t worry about a setup statement or what to say while tapping the side of
the hand/karate chop point.  That’s designed to get you focused on the
problem, and if you are in the middle of the storm, you are already focused
on the problem.

So simply start tapping the points on the face, collarbone, and under the
arm. You can say whatever is going through your mind, or relate what is
happening around you, or say something that makes you feel better such as,
“I’m safe, I’m OK right now, I will survive.”

TIP #2: THE FOREHEAD HOLD
This is great to teach children, or to do with children, and of course for
yourself.

Placing the palm of your hand across your forehead helps bring energy and
blood into the forebrain of your body and get you out of the fight-or-flight
response that drains the blood from your forehead to your chest (fight) or your legs (flee).

Lightly holding the palm of your hand across your forehead – sometimes for
10 or 15 minutes or more – will help you think clearly just when you need it
the most. This will also retrain your body not to go into that
fight-or-flight blood-rushing-from-your brain response.

You might find yourself doing this instinctively, especially with your
children. However, doing this for a few seconds doesn’t help that much – to
get maximum benefit, you want to hold your hand across the forehead until
you feel the pulsing  above the eyebrows on both sides of the forehead.

And!  you can supercharge your EFT tapping by placing the palm of one hand
across your forehead and tapping the points with your other hand.

TIP #3: TAP THE GAMUT POINT

Mostly forgotten recently in tapping, and hugely underutilized, the Gamut
Point on the back of the hand directly influences the meridian (energy
channel) that is involved in the fight-or-flight reaction.

Anytime you feel a sudden rush of emotion such as fear or anxiety (or even
anger or frustration) tapping or massaging the Gamut Point may help lower
the intensity of your reaction.

To find the Gamut Point, make a fist with one hand, and you will see a
depression between the knuckles of the fourth and fifth fingers on the back
of the hand (not between the knuckles but a little beneath the knuckles on
the hand). This depression is where to tap – or rub – to help release the
fear so you can feel safe.

BTW- Massaging the Gamut Point really helps in social situations if you  feel as if  you may  lose it and don’t
want to tap the face points.

Again, if you are feeling the fear in the moment, don’t worry so much about
what to say. You don’t really have to say anything. Just focus on the
feeling, massage or tap the Gamut Point, and notice as you feel calmer and
more able to handle the situation.

You may add the Gamut Point to your EFT tapping sequence.

Experiment with these three processes – tapping the EFT points in the moment
while focused on your emotional reaction, holding your forehead in the palm
of your hand (remember this is great for kids) and taking advantage of the
Gamut Point on the back of your hand.

I trust that we will stay safe and stay calm through the storm that is about to hit NYC and Long Island in the wee hours.  I have my suitcase packed and will sleep in clothes to go..with cats in the carrier!

Surveys and research results show that most
people would rather die than talk in front of
a live audience...

Here’s a global fears top ten:

1. Fear of public speaking (Glossophobia)
2. Fear of death (Necrophobia)
3. Fear of spiders (Arachnophobia)
4. Fear of darkness (Achluophobia)
5. Fear of heights (Acrophobia)
6. Fear of people or social situations (Sociophobia)
7. Fear of flying (Aerophobia)
8. Fear of open spaces (Agoraphobia)
9. Fear of thunder and lightning (Brontophobia)
10. Fear of confined spaces (Claustrophobia)

Jerry Seinfeld jokes that,

“This means to the average person, if you go
to a funeral, you're better off in the casket
than doing the eulogy!”


Seems a little crazy, but most of us have
experienced tremendous anxiety when it comes
to speaking in public.  (Or any of the other nine on the list; EFT can help release any fear-phobia- awesome modality!). 

This doesn’t have to be just to a huge audience
either, sometimes talking in front of a few
people, or on a group conference call can be
stressful.

The toll that this fear, anxiety and worry takes
on our lives and our careers is MASSIVE.

Learn How to Release Fear & Move into Bliss

The world is in chaos.   Lots of fear going around and lots of people not knowing what to do with it.  We need to release fear now so that personal emotional stress melt down to physical and emotional stress - anger out-of-control is derailed..Yesterday felt like the stock market totally crashed-  everyone here in New York was glum and fearful.  This morning was a bit better as the market rallied.  It closed being down almost 500 points again.  I got a call today for my services from HR at a Long Island business.  She said that one of her top execs has workplace violence complaints filed against him and that is an "exploding" issue all around..

 

London streets are heavily patrolled after looting and rioting with the situation having moved to other cities now and the 2012 Olympics in jeopardy.  It kinda feels like post 9/11 to me- especially with my daughter Jess and her husband living in London.  Rationally I know that they are as safe as crossing the street downtown.

 

Yet - being human- and a mom- I have been especially on edge the last few days.  I release fear several times daily with EFT and know this is helping.  That's how come I am sharing my personal script "Release Fear Now" with you and encourage you to substitute your own issues. The EFT meridian tapping points and a beginner EFT demo video on  the EFT page of my website

 

Please note that I use the set-up phrase while rubbing the "sore spot" for this script (located near the collar bone point either side and rub- it feels good :)).   The karate chop set up may be used as effectively.

 

1.  Set Up Phrase:

            -even though I am not coping well with this chaotic world I fully and deeply love and respect myself

            -even though Jessica is safe in London and I am stressing I fully and deeply love and respect myself.

            -even though my other daughter and her boyfriend will be flying there for the weekend and I dont like the idea due to safety concerns,  I choose to release my fear now.

 

2.  Short Version Tapping sequence: several rounds with key phrases using each key phrase thru the entire short version.   You will see that the sequence has several "reminder phrases" that are negative and then switch over to positive statements.  Of course feel free to substitute your own phrases. 

Reminder Phrases:

            -chaotic world

            -out of control

            -looting and rioting

            -police patrols

            -economic crash

            -daughters  safe

            -feel calmer now

            -BE HERE NOW

 

OK- now take a fear-stress release breaths with a big and loud exhale.

Now sit back , close your eyes and visualize something wonderfully relaxing- maybe a favorite vacation spot.  Enjoy that and settle into a relaxed state for a few minutes or longer.

Do you know that no matter what, meridian tapping sends serotonon- a feel good hormone sister to endorphins- to the section of your brain that deals with emotions (amygdala).   Adding words makes tapping extremely effective.  All you need is the intention to release fear now.

Balance Spontaneity With Intuition

Finding the balance of spontaneity with intuition helps us make choices that benefit our lives. Notice when you are feeling impulsive or spontaneous and then ask yourself, “Will this really benefit me?”  The answer comes in the form of a verbal response or simply an instinctual feeling. Try to pay attention to your feeling; that is your intuition guiding you to make the right choices. It is important to remember that making spontaneous decisions doesn’t necessarily mean being hasty. Acting with energy and spontaneity is a wonderful way to live our lives, as it means we are being in the moment. However, it can lead us to make decisions that may not be the best for us  and maylead to stress, frustration, anger, anxiety, depression.
 

A high level of energy may leave you feeling stimulated and not completely aware of the effects of the choices you make.  This may be a good time to work on balancing your spontaneity with intuition.

Taking a moment or two to think about the effects of our choices, we are still acting on the spur-of-the-moment, but we also act using our intuition as a guide. This prevents us from making decisions we may later regret. We respect and pay attention to both our desire for the unstructured and our natural instincts.   Be attuned to your intuition! How to Launch and Reach Business Goals: Ask for what you need!

I sponsored a wonderfully facilitated  an "Empowered Speed Networking" event with Lucy Rosen, Public Speaker, Author, Business Networking Expert
