  • It's harder than ever to overcome anxiety in our fast paced and often chaotic world.  We must  stay focused and calm to attain optimal productivity in our personal and professional lives- : Relationships, family, recreation, self-development, health-wellness, career, financial, environment. I am a firm believer that personal and professional realms overlap. It is a rare individual who can efficiently keep thoughts and emotions from the personal and professional realms separate all the time. Stress and anxiety are known health and time bandits and are cumulative. So, before it gets the better of you, take time out to regroup, de-stress and let go of anxiety. When possible, take a  real vacation. Here is a “short list” of possibilities that can occupy time-outs, or "mini-vacations"

• Be in nature- near a shore when possible- water has a calming effect

• Practice mindful deep relaxation breathing: in through the nose, abdomen expanding, out through the nose or mouth, abdomen deflating.

• Sit or lie down quietly

• Meditate

• Work out

  •  Dance! try "Zumba" cardio-dance class- very popular in NY  :)

• See a movie

• **Practice EFT**

• Play with pets

• Do Yoga, T’ai Chi or any moving meditation

• Listen to music

• Read a great book

  • Daydream

**EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, aka “Tapping”), a modality mentioned above, has become quite popular as it has a profoundly positive impact on your emotional and physical state in a very short time.  It successfully releases anxiety and opens emotional and physical blocks that anxiety has contributed to.  No matter what, following the "easy version" of Gary Craig's version of  EFT (even without any of the accompanying words/phrases) sends serotonin to the amygdala which is the section of our brain that deals with all emotions.   I have an informative page about EFT  including video on my website and am an advanced practitioner.  I work with individuals and groups  via telephone, Skype and  in person.  www.balanceandpower.com/eft.php.

There is a strong mind-body connection to  our stress and anxiety and it is very individual to the same stressors. A case in point is witnesses to an act of war or an accident on the street with everyone having different or levels of response.  Stay in touch with your feelings and listen to your intuition. When you think it’s time for a relaxation/anxiety release break - you’re right!
