Ten tips to create optimal productivity, happiness and confidence!
Since then, I've been asked to expand the tips and to include a few new key word phrases:
"the new normal", "difficult times", "chaos" and a few statements about “Managing with Grace, Style and Integrity in Impossibly Difficult Times,” the title of a panel discussion at an upcoming "Power Breakfast" organized by Long Island Business News.
Here are the original "tips with added text and the inclusion of the above.
1. Listen to and follow your intuition.
During these trying and difficult times it's been shown
that it's often necessary to reprioritize to get best
outcomes. Your intuition is most often correct when
it comes to your life, work and relationships. So even if
it's an inkling feeling - a tiny revelation- take a moment to
recognize that and then move forward.
2. Stay within your integrity- no matter
what.
No reason or person is important enough to ever stray. If you have tried this over the years, whether intentionally or not, then you know it always backfires.
3. Love and laugh!
Both are proven stress reducers. Happiness is contagious - many need more of that now while surrounded by global negativity, difficult times, chaos and immersed in "the new normal".
4. Forgive yourself for mistakes; let go and move on.
Self-forgiveness is essential in order to forgive anyone
else. Forgiveness is essential to let go of anger.
Letting go of anger is essential to be happier. Especially
in "the new normal" this is a no-brainer :).
5. Take time each day to relax, to
dream.
We need our "down" time more than ever now, living in these difficult times. Honor your method of relaxation and allow dreams to surface. Be open to learning additional relaxation techniques and give them a try.. whatever works for you whenever you do it is OK as long as it has no negative effects on health or overlaps with personal or work responsibilities. If things are unmanageable - get help.
6. Be a great listener.
Listening is the most important part of
communication. If you do not understand what is being said,
ask. Listen well and your response will be more on
target.
7. Stay healthy by practicing
extreme self-care. (diet, sleep, exercise, relaxation
techniques).
Stress takes its toll on health and may exacerbate
conditions already in existence. Therefore we need to be
more diligent in this realm in order to "Thrive
Amidst Chaos" (the title of a workshop I co-presented with two
colleagues
recently).
8. Stop procrastinating and take action- move forward or
drop the project.
We all procrastinate; acknowledgement of being in this mode is the firststep in moving forward. All procrastination is fear based and manifests itself through negative statements such as:
"not the right time now"
"why even bother...can happen (worst case scenario)."
Sometimes the act of "non-doing"
is an indication that the idea needs to be tossed.
What holds us back from accomplishing our goals is fear.
- Fear of failure
- Fear of being judged
- Fear of success
- Fear of being controlled
These fears are often caused by deeply routed anxieties. No matter- you can turn it all around with EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques: Meridian Tapping) combined with positive language-visualization reframing and Peak Performance Success Coaching and the intention to do just that!
The following are a few common phrases/excuses people use when
they are procrastinating: The task is:
“too boring”
“too time consuming”
“I just don’t feel like it”
“I just don’t want to”.
The Good news is that EFT ( The Emotional Freedom Technique) is wonderfully successful in reversing procrastination, as usually deeper emotional issues are involved. It is based on the simple statement that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system . It involves tapping on meridian points while making statements about the issue.
Knowing that you are afraid will not magically remove fear or change behavior. You can use The EFT Technique to eradicate the roadblocks of guilt and fear that keep you from moving forward. When you use EFT and stimulate the acupressure points (see chart) the level of serotonin in the brain rises and floods the amygdalia, the section of the brain involved with controlling emotion and fear, and the fear loop is disconnected. Once the brain stops experiencing fear with the proper EFT tapping, set-up phrase (see below examples) and intuitive NLP language guidance from an experienced EFT Practitioner, which I am, you will find that your thoughts and behaviors transform effortlessly.
9. Begin each day with a short meditation positive visualizations of successful outcomes of your goals.
Oh! I am so much a believer in this!
Research has shown fantastic results. It's all up to you -
and your connection to a higher power/the
universe.
10. Believe in yourself and your goals; create
affirmations and post them onto mirrors, in an accessible
notebook and in the car.
I've witnessed amazing escalation in self esteem,
happiness, productivity and success with the implementation of
these tips for my clients.

How to Retake Control of Your Personal Power
By Eileen Lichtenstein - Peak-Performance-Success CoachWhatever the nature of your feelings, carefully define the reaction taking place within you. If you are afraid of a situation or intimidated by an individual, try to include everything relevant to your situation while giving voice to your anxiety or issue. There may be times when you will find the release you desire only by admitting your feelings to others. When this is the case, your ability to name your feelings explicitly can help you ask for the support, aid, or guidance you need without becoming bogged down and stuck in your feelings.
The act of making a clear connection between your circumstances and your feelings unravels the mystery that previously kept you from being in complete control of your emotional state. Giving voice to these feelings brings you closer to letting them go. In the process, you naturally relax and rediscover your emotional equilibrium.
I've worked with hundreds of individuals and groups who have experienced this. I'm certain there is research to support the premise. If you need help "finding your voice" or are ready to say it all out loud to an interested third party, you may contact me for a complimentary consult and allow me to help you "SOAR! withResilience™ "www.balanceandpower.com

Harness the Power of Feng Shui as a Tool to Manifest Your Desires!
By Allison Moss-Women's Relationship & Empowerment Visionary
Feng Shui is not only an amazing tool for creating supportive surroundings. It can be a powerful way to focus and define your manifesting energy. As energy follows its natural path through your home it is possible to boost particular areas to bring about the rapid manifestation of your desires.
There are nine areas which comprise the Feng Shui Bagu'a Map and correlate with specific areas of your life.
- Wealth & Prosperity
- Health & Family
- Knowledge & Self-Cultivation
- Career
- Helpful People & Travel
- Children & Creativity
- Love & Relationships
- Fame & Reputation
- Center (The balanced state of being)
To harness and focus prosperity energy for example, you will focus on that specific area in your home. Use decor, the colors red, blue or purple and items which represent wealth and prosperity to you, as tools to generate a higher flow of wealth energy.
The key and the most important part of any
change that you make, is to set positive intentions for
your desired outcome. To set intentions, is to harness
and direct the positive energy in a way, that will supercharge
your manifesting abilities.
A very simple way to
put this into action is through the creative use of affirmations.
Design an affirmation which taps into the very essence of the
changes that you seek to create.
How Feng Shui Can
be Used to Manifest Abundace Romance &
Focus
Write this down on a
piece of paper, or even create a focal point for your affirmation
by doing it artistically and framing it. Whatever feels powerful
to you is the PERFECT thing to do. Next, take your handwritten
affirmation and place it in the area of your home representing
the aspect of your life that you desire to enhance. If you seek
to better your career, place it near your front door or entrance.
If it is an abundance of romance that you desire place the
affirmation in the back right hand corner of your home. Repeating
your affirmation often and focusing on positive change flowing
into your life, will jump start this powerful energy within
yourself and your space!
Feeling
good about your home, creating an environment that soothes and
relaxes your spirit while at the same time supporting your life
in all ways, is simple, powerful and FUN with the art of Feng
Shui.

Graffiti Saved My Life
By Monica Davis - Exceptional People MagazineAt the beginning of the month I was looking for the mailman to let my mom know the welfare check was coming, like, “Yeah I saw the mailman, Ma, he’s coming, he’s coming. It was just a different life.
I mean it’s hard for any mother. I guess it would have to be. I never met my father. Then I got another brother but I guess when I was around 11 or 12 my mom gave him to these people in the neighborhood. She gave him up for adoption.”
Growing up on the west side of Baltimore in the midst of a harsh reality, Kevin Irvin (also known as Jazi Rock) grew up in a single parent home with his mother who did the best she could to prepare her son for the reality of adulthood. But, there was a longing deep within him to have his father present.
This is a story about a young man who yearned for his father, whom he never met. A part of his identity was absent from his life and he thought he could fill that emptiness or find that role model; that father figure, or that comfort zone by hanging in the streets. But, it was that “comfort zone” of the streets that created the most uncomfortable experiences in his life. Though he didn’t find what he was seeking, he found some things that led him down the wrong path. Through it all he at least felt safe knowing that his mother cared.
“If I would dwell on the fact that I didn’t have a father, it would just cripple me. So I drew from my mother, the strength of man and a woman and I think any other single kid would that’s been raised in the same way. Everybody has a different outlook,” says Kevin.
One thing Kevin discovered about himself while searching the streets for his identity was a talent that would take him to a place he’d never dreamed of. At the ripe age of 12, he discovered graffiti. Though it was illegal, it was graffiti that helped Kevin realize and discover his abilities and talent.
Kevin says, “I guess being a kid, I wanted to be cool and be accepted. It was the early ‘80s and everybody was listening to rap music and drawing graffiti. So I started drawing letters and playing around and I just started hanging with kids doing more graffiti. Now even though it’s vandalism and it was illegal, I was occupying my time thinking of color concepts and different ways to do my name and trying to shock somebody so they would say, ‘You did that? That looks really good.’ In the inner city it was my way of getting that check or getting some accomplishment or notoriety. So I pursued that instead of gangbanging.”
“It saved me. Graffiti saved my life because I’m sure if it weren’t for me working on my artistic skill, graffiti, or not, I might not be here. Some people can’t deal with hardship. It fractures your soul sometimes.”
Kevin decided to take a brush in hand and unleash his emotions to create masterpieces that have inspired many. He chose to turn his hardships into positive experiences, using his talent to provide unusual opportunities.
“I started meeting people and just drawing more and getting better and doing different things and just opening up to different kinds of art because art is the in the eye of the beholder and it’s done in a lot of different ways,” stated Kevin.
The negative life of the streets did not escape him. He dropped out of school after attending only one day in the 6th grade. He realized he had failed when he was offered an opportunity to attend the Baltimore City School of the Arts but his academics weren’t up to par. “My mom had a mental illness. She quit school and so I thought it was okay for me to quit. I had a summer job, so I never graduated from school. I never really got to see the academic part of school from 6th grade to 12th grade.”
Kevin eventually got his GED but that didn’t shield him from experiencing the hard knocks of the street life, even though new doors had opened up for him in Virginia.
He says, “I got my GED and I came to Virginia but I lived in Baltimore. I guess they say a fox still has fleas. If he gets them off of him and he goes back to the dam, they jump back on him. I kept doing the same things when I was in my Baltimore neighborhood. I became hooked on heroin and I started to shoot dope and I started hanging, trying to fit in and be cool and gain acceptance. I got confused somewhere and drugs just took my soul. I won’t say it took everything because I didn’t have anything. I went to Frederick, Maryland and got kicked out of a shelter. I went on this long road just to be well.
Well, I broke the cycle. I’m not saying there’s any select way. I know a lot of people that get clean that say you can’t get clean or stop doing drugs in the crack house. I know people who have. I know people who’ve gotten fed up, and you know what, they move out the crack house. They make a choice. You can’t flip the script and quit getting high and hold somebody’s package on the street. You have to change the environment and the whole system that it’s in.”
“By coming to Virginia, meeting new friends, and trying to accept people and trying to get my life back, I felt like a little kid all over again and it’s a big, big choice moving or trying something different. I ended up going to school, I got a job, I started working and things kept happening. I got a savings account, things I never thought I’d do. Everybody helped me.”
Kevin’s determination to overcome drug use was very clear and evident after he experienced an accident while working as an electrician. While inside a network transformer, Kevin was electrocuted.
“All I remember was waking up and asking the supervisor to help me and he was in shock, so much shock that I had to drag myself out. I remember being told in the ambulance they had something to soothe and calm me and I immediately told them that I was an ex-intravenous drug user and that I’d rather go without drugs. But I was in so much pain that once I got to the hospital they told me that I had third and fourth degree burns and they were going to administer it. By me telling them that, I saved my life because they knew they were dealing with an ex-intravenous drug user. I’m blessed that I don’t have to deal with pain medicines.”
That experience helped Kevin change his view about life. While on his journey to freedom from crack and the harsh realities of life, he met people whose life stories he could identify with. That helped him understand his own story. He says he’s still learning to become honest with himself about where he was during that period in his life. The more time he spends with himself, his story becomes clearer and he learns something different about himself everyday.
His advice to other young artists is to stay focused and stay away from the streets. “It’s hard to find somebody who sees life the way you see it. Just paint for you, not for anybody else. You’ve got to keep painting, keep trying and make somebody see who you are. Sometimes it’s by repetition and by showing up. You’ve got to invest in yourself and that’s the hardest time to say, I’m going to work on me, I’m going to take care of my life.”
Kevin’s life may have been littered with many stumbling blocks but he is now reaping the benefits of his hard work and determination to become a person of strong character with talents unique to himself.
Though the accident has left him with a post traumatic brain injury, Kevin continues to draw and paint. Kevin says, “It gives me a sense of freedom and it allows me to explore my brain even though I may do things in an unorthodox manner.”
Recently Kevin’s mother died and her death has re-awakened in him the messages she instilled in him over the years – don’t give up on your dream and be yourself. “My mom used to say, it’s okay to judge Kevin, but it’s not okay to be judgmental. That went past my head. I never understood it then but I understand it now.”
Today, Kevin is a
successful full-time artist. He has designed and created
works for Arena Stage, US Air, and The Teamsters Union, among
many others. Being
an artist is teaching him life lessons he may not have otherwise
learned. Some of
his work is still based on the graffiti style but his transition
from street graffiti to fine arts has been widely
accepted. Kevin is
a self-made artist with no educational background in the
arts. His resume
represents commissioned works worth tens of thousands of
dollars. He has
produced works for Red Bull, Adidas, Paul Wall and the Children’s
Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Embrace Gratitude
By Allison Moss-Women's Relationship & Empowerment Visionary
Through my work I help women to become empowered by discovering their passions and living on purpose. Many clients come to me with low self-confidence, low self-esteem and feelings of severe lack. It is so important, when creating shifts within yourself and your life, to recognize the things that you already have. As you open your heart and mind to receiving even more wonder, joy and happiness the most important thing that you can do to lift yourself to a new level is to embrace gratitude.
The amazing Universe we live in functions on energetic levels. Every person and thing has its own unique energetic vibration. Joy, happiness, gratitude and beauty all vibrate at very high levels. Sadness, worry, doubt and lack all vibrate at lower frequencies. A perfect example of this is, when you are worn down, tired and overstressed it is much easier to pick up a bug and become ill. Dis-eases vibrate at a low frequency; as you allow yourself to become run down and lower your personal energy, you attract the bug that is vibrating at the same level as you.
To begin attracting positive things into your life, it is important to keep your personal energy high. An exercise that I have discovered which works AMAZINGLY well for my clients is so simple and fun, yet powerful and effective. Try this today and begin your journey to uplifted empowered living!
Begin with a pen and paper and a few moments of you time. (A pen and paper or journal work well as you will be able to take this list with you!) Once you are comfortable and relaxed begin making a list of 20 things that you are grateful for, that you ALREADY have in your life at THIS very moment.
Your list can be anything that makes you happy. Family, friends, pets, a new pair of shoes, the colors of the fall leaves on the trees, or even your friendly neighborhood birds that fill your yard with song. Whatever makes you happy, add it to your list.
This simple exercise creates a shift in your vibration. As you recognize that you have wonderous things to be grateful for it is hard to stay blue, down or feeling sorry for yourself. This positive vibrational shift will put you on a higher plane of attraction creating the opportuinity to embrace gratitude in even larger and more amazing ways.
Sit down today, create your list and carry it with you as a reminder to embrace gratitude each and every day.
You Can DO IT!
